Inclusive leadership training

Inclusive leadership training that lives in everyday decisions

Last updated: November 2026

What is inclusive leadership training?

Inclusive leadership training teaches leaders to make fair, deliberate decisions so that talent, ideas, and perspectives are not overlooked. CRW Diversity teaches it through Celeste Warren's Equity in Action Model, which moves leaders from awareness to access, advocacy, action, accountability, and empowerment, examining both their own choices and the systems around their teams.

Many programs stop at awareness. The Equity in Action approach treats awareness as the first of six steps and asks leaders to look at outcomes, not intentions.

Inclusive leadership, card by card

Definition: inclusive leadership at CRW Diversity

At CRW Diversity, inclusive leadership means using your everyday decisions to give people fair and equitable opportunities to contribute, grow, and succeed. It covers who hears about an opportunity, whose ideas are considered, who gets advocated for, and whether people can use their voices.

It also means examining the policies, practices, and unwritten norms that shape those outcomes, because lasting change requires more than changing people.

Inclusive leadership training activities, step by step

These are the kinds of reflection steps the Equity in Action Model uses. Leaders can try them before or after a CRW Diversity workshop.

  1. Awareness check

Notice how your assumptions and past experiences influenced your last talent decision.

  2. Access audit

List who received key information this month and who did not.

  3. Advocacy move

Name one person whose idea or talent deserves more visibility and act on it.

  4. Outcome review

Look at results, not intentions: who advanced, who was heard, who stayed.

  • Does inclusive leadership training cover leading with effective communication?

Inclusive leadership depends on how leaders share information and listen. The Access element of the Equity in Action Model asks who has access to information, and Empowerment asks leaders to create conditions for people to use their voices. Both are communication habits leaders can practice daily.

  • How is Equity in Action different from one-time awareness training?

Equity in Action focuses on everyday decisions rather than awareness alone. Awareness is only the first of six elements; the model continues through Access, Advocacy, Action, Accountability, and Empowerment. Celeste Warren’s view is that equity becomes real through the decisions leaders make every day, not through belief alone.
